Neat Video About Hula Hooping in BMore…

by Wes Linda on September 11, 2009

A new day from Andy Ellis on Vimeo.

I came across this video of G. Andreas “Spilly” Spiliadis via @bmoreconnected on twitter, and really liked the video.  This weekend he’s attempting to break a world record, so stop by and check it out if you have the time!

Press Release Information:

Baltimore City resident and native G. Andreas “Spilly” Spiliadis is a hula hoop maker and teacher.  On Sunday, September 13th he hopes to also be a World Record Holder.  At noon, in the Wyman Park Dell (across from the Baltimore Museum of Art), he will attempt to break the World Record for the largest hoop ever to be hooped with at least three rotations.

The attempt will be made in honor of Baltimore City and in the name of alleviating all suffering through the joy of Hoop Revolution.  In addition a bucket will be circulated to raise money to send the West Baltimore debate team that Spiliadis coaches to the Harvard Debate Tournament this winter.  Home made hula hoops will be available for use between 11 am and 1 pm and participants may also purchase the hoops.

The hoop is made of steel tubing and will be 60 feet in circumference.   The current record is almost ten feet less in circumference and is held by a man from Beijing, China.
